Question by Jesus: I need help with an interview I’m about to do for a full scholarship.?
It’s going to be over the phone. It’s for an engineering college and I need ideas about what might be asked and what I can say. Also, they are probably going to ask me about why I want to be an engineer but I can’t really articulate why I want to be an engineer. I know why but I can’t put it into words.
So basically:
1. How do I prepare for a phone interview
2. What kind of questions might they ask
3. How should I answer the question about why I want to be an engineer
Any helpful tips or hyperlinks to helpful websites would be appreciated.

To prepare for any telephone interview, have handy your resume to talk from, have a least three references handy (use your professors or say you will provide them and then e-mail your profs for permission and ask for a reference in hard copy to carry with you for that face to face interview later ) and have some legal pads and as they talk write down your answer and don’t answer to quickly do it more thought out unless the answer is easy. Keep the answers lucid and clear, don’t apologize about anything if something comes up negative, ” say I have had time to learn from that mistake” or I am ready to do better than that given the opportunity.
They will ask Engineering questions based on their needs and something related to your discipline and employment record. If you are MEP then its that , if you are electrical its that, tell them if you are how computer literate, how you are and that means name the software or engineering systems software or scheduling software.
To answer why you want to be an Engineer, just say you like problem solving, if you don’t have a degree. If you have a degree then say because I want experience or to use my experience in your area. Have a glass of apple juice if you think you might stammer and then take a sip before answering, ok.
Good luck on the interview !
