Question by aka: job offer after background check?
How long after 3 interviews (4 weeks ago), a test and a background check (2 weeks ago) do you actually get a job offer? This is at a well-known hospital and I was notified that everything went well.

Be patient. Sometimes a couple of months is not that long to fill certain staffing positions. If you’re that curious, give them a call.

How long after an interview should I wait to hear from the company before I call them to check on my status?

Question by Pheonix B: How long after an interview should I wait to hear from the company before I call them to check on my status?
Ok, so last Thursday I went to an interview for a company that is literally 10 minutes from my house. It is a perfect location since I go to school at night and I would be able to get there and to school easily. They had an open call for interviews from 1-3pm. There were 2 other people in the waiting room with me as I filled out the application. I interviewed with one HR person and she was very nice, and after going over my resume and my work experience, she said “if you have the time, I would like you to interview with someone else.” I said ok and she took me back to the main work area and handed me off to a second interviewer. At this point, I see one of the people that was in the waiting room with me, leaving already. I interview with the second person and he was nice also. We went over my work history and he had me read a script (this is a customer service position that requires a good speaking voice) and after that, he said that I had a good voice and said “if you have the time, I would like you to interview with my call center supervisor.” I’m like, ok sure. The Call Center Supervisor interviews me and somehow we get on the topic of fantasy football, video games releases and what makes customer service valuable. By this time its almost 3:30pm. We concluded the interview on a great note and he says that he will call all the candidates later to let them know yea or nay. I gave him a strong hand shake and went on my merry way, so all in all, the interview went well, at least I think so. So, I sent off a Thank you note to each of my interviewers and they should have gotten there Tuesday. Wed, I called to follow up but the woman I interviewed with first was out of town but they let me leave her a voice mail. So after all this, my question is, how long do I wait to hear from them or contact again??? Should I follow up on Monday morning? I do not want to seem too persistent or pushy, but I really want this job. It is just about perfect in every way for me, but I feel I have done all I can to try to make myself stand out. I do not want to go overboard, but what is the next course of action? Any suggestions??? All answers appreciated, snide comments will be ignored. I have been homeless, pulled myself out of the gutter only to be out of work for almost 2 years and just want to get back into the work force doing what I do best, customer service, and I have found a company that is not outsourcing its work. I just need some sound advice on getting a job right now. Thanks people….^_^

You sound like the kind of person I would hire in a flash! You already have a good plan. Wait until Monday and then call. They make promises at interviews they have no intention of keeping so do not be too disappointed if you don’t get the job. Sometimes, a gentle push at the right moment does get you the job so call and ask if a decision has been made on hiring for that position. What is the worst that could happen? You don’t have the job now so the worst that could happen is you won’t have th job after the call. But, the best that can happen is that you will be hired so go for it! And best of luck. You sound like a real asset to any company smart enough to hire you.

If the person who phone ask you second interview and bing a black check what does that mean?

Question by Colin Allarie: If the person who phone ask you second interview and bing a black check what does that mean?
If I get a phone call for a second interview and the person tells you about the job and how much it pays and to bring in a void check to speed up the process if all goes well what does that mean.

Generally a second interview means your hired unless it’s a very high end job. Your asked to bring a blank check so they can set up your automatic pay. Just make sure you void the check.

What shows up on a pre-employment background check?

Question by Star: What shows up on a pre-employment background check?
Okay, when I was 21 I worked at Wal-Mart. My boyfriend at the time also worked there. He ended up getting into a physical fight (in the store while he was on break) with the boyfriend of our female co-worker. Afterwards, she and I got into an argument in the break room. (we were both off the clock.) It just so happens that she was already in the break room and I was on my way there. But the store managers take on it was that I “went after her.” Anyway, all three of us were terminated. I am now 24 and have been at my current job for 3 years. I’m filling out an application for a new job and that wonderful question arised “Have you ever been terminated from a job?” Do I have to answer it honestly? Also, it asks for details; what if I act like it was nothing serious? There is a new store manager at the Wal-Mart I used to work for, do you think they will dime me out if this job calls and asks why I was terminated? Thanks for your help.

You do have to answer it honestly but if they ask why, you can tell them that it was due to divergence of policy view between yourself and the business. If you were arrested and they do a check, you could have some further explanation.

How long does it usually take for background check after a verbal job offer?

Question by clean: How long does it usually take for background check after a verbal job offer?
I went to an interview with a fortune 500 company about a week ago. I talked to 5 people and stayed for almost 3 hours. I think it went pretty well. 5 days after the HR called and told me that the hiring manager wants to offer me the job (a verbal offering). They will be conducting a background check. That was happened on this Tuesday. Today is Thursday. Should this be taking longer than 2 days after a verbal offering has been made? Or how long does it usually take for background check in my case? Why would they give me a verbal offer BEFORE asking me to provide my current pay stub and background check?

It really depends on where you are getting a job at. Normally it takes 2 – 3 weeks or if its a real highly known company it can take up to 5 weeks. Some jobs may only take 1 – 2 weeks though so you never know. Just be patient and apply for a few other jobs in case it does not check out or they just dont look into it.
