Question by AngelLove_45: How long before an employer should call back after an interview?
I applied for a job at a retail store and was called for an interview last Wednesday. They seemed to really like me and spoke to me as if they were going to hire me. They told me all the benefits, the job description, how many hours I should expect, what uniform I would wear…etc etc etc.
They just requested that I provide them with references, which I did. They did indeed contact these references 2 days ago.
So it’s been 5 days since the interview and 2 days since they contacted the references.
Do I still have hope of them calling me back for a job offer? Should I stop waiting? Is there something else they could be waiting for? How long should I wait before giving up?

Question by Le82sha: How long after offered a job position must an employer ask for a pre-screen drug test?
I went for an interview and got asked back to sign a form for them to do a background check (the form did not mention anything about drug testing). I did and they called and offered me the job. I accepted and we figured out a date for me to start which would be in about 2 weeks. Will they still be able to give a drug test that first day or would they have done it or ask to do one by now?

I believe companies are required by law to inform a potential employee about drug testing prior to hiring. Once you are hired, they cannot surprise you, or demand random drug testing unless it is in your contract.

Question by Due Christmas Day!: How long does it take for an employer to offer you a job after the interview?
I had an interview the day before yesterday. She said she would make the choice this week. Yesterday she called me in the morning, but asked for 3 references because I didn’t add any in the interview. She said she wanted three so that if the first one is bad she can keep calling more people…lol..she actually told me that. Anyway, since yesterday there are still no calls, but my references haven’t said if she called them or not, and usually they will let me know when the called. I also know that my ref’s are good because last time I used them I got called for a job the same day.
Do I still have a chance?

Don’t panic yet. I’ve been offered a job 2 weeks after the interview before. The references are interesting – some potential employers will call and speak to them for a long time, while others will simply look at the job title of the references and draw their own conclusions.
It’s nerve racking, I know, but to rest your mind just give a couple of your references a call to see what questions they are asking. If you don’t hear anything back before 4PM on Friday give the employer a call. They may be honest, or they may blow you off, but at least you showed initiative and shows you are still interested in the job.
Best of luck!

I had a job interview the Monday before last, so this coming Monday will be two weeks. The interview seemed to go well and she indicated that she was just beginning interviewing (I think I was the first one) and that she would let me know by “the end of next week”. So do you think she will call me on Monday? What does it take to get a second interview????
Also, I forgot to send a thank you note, should I still send one even though it has been 2 weeks?
I was a victim of sexual harassment and settled with the company. I cannot speak about the lawsuit or the events leading to it. So how do I answer interview questions that ask about my previous employment and why I left?
