would this be an inappropriate answer to the question “what is your greatest weakness” during a job interview?

Question by Sara: would this be an inappropriate answer to the question “what is your greatest weakness” during a job interview?
I’m currently seeking a new job and it will only be my second interview for a job ever. During my first interview (retail store) i was not asked this question, however this new job i’m looking into involves being a receptionist. If they were to ask me my greatest weakness, would it be too inappropriate to say that I tend to have a bit of social anxiety however at the start of my current job i’ve learned to change that anxiety into almost adrenaline and I push myself to do that task. The more anxious I feel about something the farther i will go to make myself do it.

I’m not sure if it would be a good answer considering your not “really” suppose to give a weakness, but more or less a weakness that conceals a strength like the classic “i tend to really be a perfectionist”…Instead of lying and saying something like that, i figured i’d say something that really is a weakness but pushes me harder.

Thanks for the opinions!
but isn’t that why I would say how it pushes me to do it better? How would that be a concern for them?

the part about the weakness pushing you harder is really good, but I don’t think I would say the part about the social anxiety. As a receptionist, you do have to deal with people on a daily basis and that might be a concern for them.

Good luck! Hope you get it

In a job interview, what is a good answer for “what is your greatest weakness” ?

Question by cbmp06: In a job interview, what is a good answer for “what is your greatest weakness” ?
I hate this question! I feel like its a trap. I sometimes say that mine is the fact that when I work on a project of my own, I dont like other people messing around in it, that its “my baby”. But Im afraid this makes me seem bossy, or like a loner. Im neither. Probably my greatest weakness is math, honestly. Im so bad with numbers. Can I use this? (provided the job Im interviewing for doesn’t require strong mathematical skills!)

Ah! Don’t use those answers!

Your greatest weakness is that you are a perfectionist/overachiever and sometimes work so hard to get the best result that you find yourself working long hours.

I love that question and of course I don’t know you to know how YOU could respond. Like you said, you want to present something that you can turn around to a positive … or maybe that’s not relevant to the job. My answer to that on my job interview (phone work) was “I would say that my biggest weakness is in public speaking; however, I have been working on it through an organization called Toastmasters, which works on public speaking skills.”

How do you answer “What’s your greatest weakness” question without saying “i’m a perfectionist”

Question by GirlyGirl: How do you answer “What’s your greatest weakness” question without saying “i’m a perfectionist”
I have an interview tomorrow and it never fails that they ask me the “what’s your biggest weakness question.” I am horrible at answering this. I know they want a weakness and that they want you then to say how you fixed it/how you are working on it, but I need some examples. Please nothing with the “i was/am a perfectionist” In all the business classes I took they ALWAYS said NEVER say you are a perfectionist regardless of the question because it is a trait that most employers don’t want in their offices. When I saw this question already posted on here a few months back pretty much the only answer the guy got was the perfectionist one..

Say that you are constantly late, can not be depended on, and quickly get bored with your job and start working on non-productive personal stuff.

Also, say that your brutal honesty is your second biggest weakness.
