How long to wait after applying for student worker job?

Question by Amethyst: How long to wait after applying for student worker job?
I applied for a student worker job in a lab (undergrad). I emailed the contact number and told them I was interested, but I haven’t gotten a reply yet. How long should I wait before applying for a different one?

Keep in mind, this is a student worker job.

It kind of depends on when the job listing ends (if there is in fact and end date), but I would say wait 2 to 3 more days. When I applied for an on-campus job, they called me for an interview four days after I sent in my application. I don’t know how long you’ve been waiting but if they don’t send you anything within a couple days then I’d say move on.

How long does it take to receive a job offer?

Question by xxblondiekatiexx: How long does it take to receive a job offer?
I got a call from a local hospital to meet with human resources for a job interview where i had to take a data entry test which i did well on and then the actual interview. I thought that the interview went well and she asked me if i had time to meet with the supervisor of the lab that i would be working at if i did get the job. I met with her and had another interview which seemed to go well also. This all happened on a friday and then i got a call from human resources asking if i was able to go for an interview with the head of the lab at the hospital and i went wednesday and she also seemed to like me. What is the time frame where i would be offered the job? I know i have been hardly waiting but im trying to look for a timeline if anyone cal help.

Give it a few more days. You already made it all the way up to the 4th interview. Try to have a good (a relaxing) weekend. Don’t sit in front of the phone.

How long is too long to reply to a job offer?

Question by The Melodious Nocturne: How long is too long to reply to a job offer?
I got a job offer last Wednesday in an e-mail, but I held off replying because I wanted to print and send in my driver’s abstract along with the signed offer letter. Now, at next Monday, I’m worried that the offer will have been revoked.

I’m in another city, 4 hours away at school, so it’s not like I can sign these things and drive over to hand them off. I have to find a fax machine or a scanner, or snail-mail. But then again, it was an e-mail.

Did I wait too long?
It is the summer student program so they know I’m far away/

If you were seriously considering taking up this job, you should have acknowledged and told them that you will be sending the signed offer letter within x days.

Now don’t procrastinate anymore. Send that email NOW. Tell them that you were wanting to send the whole package in one go but since that is taking time, you wanted to acknowledge and accept the offer by email while the papers are being readied.

You must also give them a specific time by which you will have emailed or sent the hard copy. If they have not already revoked the offer, you will be able to get it. Even after revoking they might reconsider if they had found you well-suited to the job.

How long should I wait to call my job interviewer? What does it mean when…?

Question by lanza1977: How long should I wait to call my job interviewer? What does it mean when…?
(Sorry for the length…thanks for reading! I promise promptly give a best answer!)

A couple weeks ago I did a phone interview with a company and at the end the Human Resources woman asked me for a salary expection (which I gave because I feared if I didn’t I wouldn’t move on in the interview process). Since she said she couldn’t even give me salary range to work with because their policy is not to give one out until they make an offer, my number was based on research I did online on Salary.com for the same position.

The following morning she called me back to invite me for a second interview. The interview went very well. They even had the big boss come down, unexpectedly, to meet with me and ask questions.

Five days later the Human Resources woman (the same one who did the phone interview and who was part of the face to face interview) called me. I thought she was going to make an offer, but instead she told me that my salary expectations were too high. On a good note, however, she also told me that she received very good feedback from the managers and big boss who interviewed me. She did not make an offer (therefore, again she couldn’t give a salary range), and it seemed like she was trying to start negotiations without an offer. So, instead of me telling her a new salary figure, I told her that I am very willing to negotiate because I would really like to work for them. I said that am looking for a compensation package that is motivating, value-based, and in line with the market rate. She then asked me how I could justify my expected increase from my last job and I said that I was moving from a non-profit to the private sector. I couldn’t quite tell if she was satisified with my answers about salary, but she was pleasant and said that another HR person would be caluculating amounts based on some factors (that I don’t know) and that I would hear from them in the “next day or two.” Friday was day 3.

I am nervous because I haven’t heard from them (and it’s now the weekend) and I really want this job. My main concern is that I get compensated fairly (in the past, I have been underemployed and underpaid for my worth) while providing them excellent work.

Is it a bad sign that they didn’t call back by Friday (one day later than they said they would)? How can I negotiate without knowing their terms? Should I give them a call tomorrow or does that seem too desparate?

Thanks so much for any of your suggestions/opinions! =)

Give them time. I bet they are busy sifting through hundreds of applicants (especially because good jobs are so scarce right now). Give them until Thursday or Friday and even then, just call and “check on the progress of your application.”

What would you do if you were in my place? Please read and answer. I know its long but im in a tough position.?

Question by Tammy: What would you do if you were in my place? Please read and answer. I know its long but im in a tough position.?
So my daughter is 15 but is in 8th grade, going into 9th when summer starts next week. She is at an upper class private school but we can only afford it because of a scholarship the school gave to us. My husband teaches at a community college but the college is facing financial trouble and might drop his department. Anyways, the scholarship is supposed to be private but i think just about everyone in the whole school knows about it. I was at a school play with my daughter on thursday night and when it was over, this woman walked over to me and asked if i was Tamera. I told her yes. She introduced herself as Jennifer Fitch and then went on to tell me that she had asked the school if they knew anyone who was qualified to be a secretary in a law office. Apparently the school told her i needed a job and was qualified as a secretary because i used to handle sorting the school lunch orders and taking them to the vendors. The school didn’t tell her about the job though. She said she was a lawyer and her personal secretary was moving away and she was looking for a new one. She asked me if i was interested and my husband told her i was. She basically told me when i had to come in for a formal interview if i wanted the job. It was at 10 the next morning. Then her husband walked over carrying their daughter, Maddy, who is in my daughters class and got one of the lead rolls my daughter auditioned for in the play, piggy back. My daughter, Melody said hi to her and she just rolled her eyes and looked at her iphone to answer a text. I went in the next morning at 9:45 and Jennifer didnt even show up until 10:30. When she got there, she didnt appologize or anything but she said Maddy had gotten no sleep the past few weeks getting ready for the play and she had to take her to the doctor. We up to her office and she told me what the job involved. She told me all i would do was answer the phone, set up appointments, and work with one of her paralegals with sorting paperwork. She told me she was one of 3 partners in the firm and there were 6 other attorneys, 9 paralegals, and 3 secretaries in the firm. Then she did the usual interview things. I told her that i had 3 daughters and one son. I told her that my son and one of my daughters has autism and that the other 2 daughters attend the same school as her daughter. That was all i thought she needed to know but she started asking me about what my kids like to do and then she asked where i live. I told her then asked her why she needed to know and she told me if i got the job, i would have access to highly confidential and she needed to know she could trust me so i asked her about her family. It was a mistake because she went on for about 15 minutes telling me about Maddy and how wounderful of a girl she is. Now to me this is a lie because i know her daughter is a partier, is popular, snobby, and very rude to Melody. Then she told me all about her husbands job as the CFO of the company he works for. Then she told me they live in Tuscan Hills, which ive been to before and i dont think any of the houses there are worth less that several million. She told me she thought i was the one for the job and i could have it if i improved my image a bit. I asked her what she meant and she said i needed an appropriate haircut, i need to dye my hair to hide the gray spots, and she said i needed to improve my wardrobe just a little. I said I had to talk it over with my husband so she said she would have someone from her office call me in the next several days to ask if i wanted the job. Then a client showed up so she showed me out and went back to her office.

My husband really wants me to take the job because he is sure he is about to get laid off but i think Jennifer is a bit stuck up and rude and im afraid it will make it even harder on my daughter if i work for one of her classmates parents. My daughter is socially akward and is bigger than most people in her class (boys and girls) and is the oldest in her class so she is made fun of as it is. It also annoyed me that she actually told me to get better clothes, a better haircut, and that i have gray spots (which i never noticed before). What would you do if you were in my place? Thanks in advance.
