Question by Faisal Z: How and when is a job offer letter typically sent?
I was told on the phone that I should expect a job offer letter by a prospective employer.
Is it sent by email or by post?

Most employer send out the job offer letter within 2 week of the interview. Most of the time, you are asked for your email, because they prefer to send it via email. Unless you state to them that you do not have an email account. Be ready to reply soon, because they will expect an answer within a few days after receipt of the email/job offer. Other companies will mail the letter with US mail, but more and more companies are resorting to the email.

How long after 3 interviews (4 weeks ago), a test and a background check (2 weeks ago) do you actually get a job offer? This is at a well-known hospital and I was notified that everything went well.

Be patient. Sometimes a couple of months is not that long to fill certain staffing positions. If you’re that curious, give them a call.

Question by xxblondiekatiexx: How long does it take to receive a job offer?
I got a call from a local hospital to meet with human resources for a job interview where i had to take a data entry test which i did well on and then the actual interview. I thought that the interview went well and she asked me if i had time to meet with the supervisor of the lab that i would be working at if i did get the job. I met with her and had another interview which seemed to go well also. This all happened on a friday and then i got a call from human resources asking if i was able to go for an interview with the head of the lab at the hospital and i went wednesday and she also seemed to like me. What is the time frame where i would be offered the job? I know i have been hardly waiting but im trying to look for a timeline if anyone cal help.

Give it a few more days. You already made it all the way up to the 4th interview. Try to have a good (a relaxing) weekend. Don’t sit in front of the phone.

Question by The Melodious Nocturne: How long is too long to reply to a job offer?
I got a job offer last Wednesday in an e-mail, but I held off replying because I wanted to print and send in my driver’s abstract along with the signed offer letter. Now, at next Monday, I’m worried that the offer will have been revoked.
I’m in another city, 4 hours away at school, so it’s not like I can sign these things and drive over to hand them off. I have to find a fax machine or a scanner, or snail-mail. But then again, it was an e-mail.
Did I wait too long?
It is the summer student program so they know I’m far away/

If you were seriously considering taking up this job, you should have acknowledged and told them that you will be sending the signed offer letter within x days.
Now don’t procrastinate anymore. Send that email NOW. Tell them that you were wanting to send the whole package in one go but since that is taking time, you wanted to acknowledge and accept the offer by email while the papers are being readied.
You must also give them a specific time by which you will have emailed or sent the hard copy. If they have not already revoked the offer, you will be able to get it. Even after revoking they might reconsider if they had found you well-suited to the job.

In today’s job market, I’d take the first job I was offered. This is not the time to wait for a second possibility. Unemployment is too high and they may just hire somebody else. Then if the second job doesn’t come through, you’re sunk. They could easily give you a week or so to decide. In that case you could wait a few days, but I wouldn’t wait until the last minute.
