If the hiring manager after an interviews says they are going to refer you for a position, w/ does that mean?

Question by tee_tee: If the hiring manager after an interviews says they are going to refer you for a position, w/ does that mean?
I was told by my friend that works there, that it doesn’t mean I have to do a second interview… Does that mean she requested HR to run my background check or what (that’s what my friend thinks). I am really anxious and I really need this job, So any constructive none sarcastic advise or opinions anyone could offer would be appreciated. Oh and how long does it take to run a background check. Thanks

This is the other response I got after emailing the lady that interviewed me:

I am doing fine. I will be making a recommendation today for the position. Someone from HR will contact you by phone or letter letting you know the decision.

Question: Is there some type of protocol that hiring manager’s have to follow that prevents them from telling you if your hired or not? Based off everything I have told you what do yall think?

How long after a phone interview for a top level civil service position should you email the interviewers?

Question by nakal2_2000: How long after a phone interview for a top level civil service position should you email the interviewers?
Is it appropriate to follow up an interview for a top level government position with a thank you email ? Particularly, if the interviewers were rather stiff and formal ? Does it make the candidate for the job look weak or professional ? How long should one wait before emailing the interview committee ?

Don’t E-mail, use a professional looking typed letter, thanking them.

How long after offered a job position must an employer ask for a pre-screen drug test?

Question by Le82sha: How long after offered a job position must an employer ask for a pre-screen drug test?
I went for an interview and got asked back to sign a form for them to do a background check (the form did not mention anything about drug testing). I did and they called and offered me the job. I accepted and we figured out a date for me to start which would be in about 2 weeks. Will they still be able to give a drug test that first day or would they have done it or ask to do one by now?

I believe companies are required by law to inform a potential employee about drug testing prior to hiring. Once you are hired, they cannot surprise you, or demand random drug testing unless it is in your contract.

What are your weaknesses?
This is one of those panel interviews. All the research I’ve done comes up with answers for “white collar” jobs.

Hmm.. try these:

“Some say I am a perfectionist and that I worry too much about details.”

“I love to work…I need to balance work and home a bit more”

“I don’t really have a “WEAKNESS” but I suppose I could always be a bit more organized in my paperwork at home”

“I can get impatient when I work with someone who doesn’t work as hard as I do…I do care about the work I do and expect everyone else to also!”

How do you answer the question – Why did you leave your last position?

Question by Mike B: How do you answer the question – Why did you leave your last position?
Here’s some background – I have been on many interviews and this question always comes up. ( I use it too)
I have been a maintenance supervisor for 18 years. Recently the Electrical (Mr. T) and Maintenance (me) Supervisors were terminated. The new Maintenance Manager (8 months out of the Navy) has never dealt with anything to do with maintenance except to call someone. When the Electrical Supervisor was -let go- a Navy friend replaced him. He knew next to nothing about electrical. The Navy man who replaced me (the following week) knows about the same as the electrical supervisor. The maintenance crew still calls and complains about them but there is nothing I can do, mostly they just want to tell someone and let off some steam.
What do I say so that I don’t sound like I’m not telling the whole story. I always answer honestly and no I will not lie, I believe this is a problem.

just tell them you were downsized. I was released in May (because of outsourcing to India), After 15.5 years. Now you know why its hard to find dedicated people.

Job interviews, job offers…how long do I have to decide to take a position?

Question by I Got What U Need: Job interviews, job offers…how long do I have to decide to take a position?
I have had 2 interviews already and have 2 more to go. I need a job right now. Because I am in need of a position fast I am tempted to take the first job offer, whichever it may be. I feel very confident I have a good chance of getting one of the positions I have interviewed for but one of the upcoming would be good too. The last of the 4 is low paying. I really don’t want to accept the low paying position because I am desperate for something now and a few days later get a call from one of the others offering a job. What is a appropriate amount of time to leave before accepting. I don’t want to wait too long hoping on the others to call…..
Should also not, the job I said I feel like I have a good chance at getting is a file clerk position. During the interview she mentioned that they will be going to electronic filing over the next couple of years – which could over time eliminate the position.

Usually you have around a week to accept an offer. When you get one, they will let you know how long you have to respond.
